Great Wall Marathon Tour:

  • The Great Wall Marathon in Beijing is widely considered as one of the world's most challenging marathons. The Great Wall Marathon event offers three distances: a full marathon, 10 km marathon and half marathon. Despite the  arduous course on the iconic Great Wall of China, runners will be rewarded by the breathtaking surroundings and views. As the route leads all runners through the lower valley and into the villages, spectators will be cheering and the festive atmosphere is a real energy boost to each runners to reach to the goal!

Today you will continue your city excursion in Beijing to visit the largest royal garden in China – Summer Palace in the morning. You will visit the Olympic venues in the afternoon – Bird Nest and the Water Cube (photo stop) , then you will join in a tour visiting the narrow alley in Beijing by the pedalcycle. This pedal tour can help you get to know the daily life of local people in Beijing.
A famous Peking Roast Duck dinner will be entertained tonight for you.

The Old City Wall

In the afternoon, go to visit the UNESCO world heritage - Ancient Dujiangyan Irrigation Project and Qingcheng Mount.
After dinner, you will visit the old downtown of Chengdu. Chengdu is a city brimming with a strong leisurely ambiance. Jinli Street is particularly representative of this city. It is recorded that as early as the Qin Dynasty (221 BC - 206 BC), Jinli Street was the most famous place for baldachin - a rich, ornate cloth. Strolling down the narrow street, you will find yourself surrounded by old-world stores selling Shu Embroidery, lacquer products, folk handicrafts, curios, or calligraphy and paintings of celebrities. All of the stores have their unique style but also have one thing in common: no matter how busy the place is, the stores are peaceful and relaxing. You can browse leisurely or purchase some souvenirs for your friends. Most of the special local products can be found here.

Today you will fly to Chengdu, you will be met by the tour guide, then drive directly to visit the Leshan Giant Buddha, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Leshan Giant Buddha was built during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The Buddha is carved out of a cliff and faces the confluence of the three cities in Leshan. It is the world’s largest Buddha carved from a stone.

You will ride on the boat to enjoy the night view of Shanghai and have dinner on the boat. After the short cruise, you will go to visit the Xintiandi – the old French Concession area to see the night life of Shanghai today.

April 20: Xi'an - Chengdu - Leshan   by air

You will ride the Maglev, the world fastest train to the airport
for your return flight back to USA. Your wonderful vacation is over all too soon as you will board the home bound flight and bid a fond farewell to China today. You will gain the lost day back by crossing the international dateline.

Sichuan Panda

Today you will fly to Xi'an from Beijing, the renowned starting point of the ancient Silk Road. Xi'an was also the capital belonging to eleven ancient dynasties in Chinese history. You will check in the hotel first, prepare for a short private Marathon for our group on the 600 years old City Wall in Xi'an, the most complete city wall that has survived in China, as well being one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world.
The City Wall is about 11 km long in circumference. In the evening after dinner, you will enjoy the traditional foot massage again after the Marathon on the City Wall.

Beijing is the capital of China and the 2008 Olympics was successfully held here. A tour coach will pick you up at the hotel, with the first stop arriving at Temple of Heaven, then continue the visit to Tiananmen Square, a famous landmark and the world's largest public square. Next place to visit is the Forbidden City – the royal palace of ancient Chinese emperors. In the afternoon, drive to visit Hutong - (the alley or lane) by rickshaw where you can get to see the vivid life of Beijing in the old time. 

In the afternoon, you will go to the register center for all the documents about the Marathon on the Great Wall.

You will go to visit the largest Giant Panda Center in the world. Located just 10 km (6 miles) away from downtown Chengdu, the Panda Breeding Research Center has been created and imitated the pandas' natural habitat in order that they might have the best possible environment for rearing and breeding. It cares also for other rare and endangered wild animals with an area of 560 mus (92 acres), 96% of which is verdure. Giant pandas, lesser pandas, black-necked cranes, white storks as well as over 20 species of rare animals are fed and bred there throughout the year. Verdant bamboo, bright flowers, fresh air, a natural hill scene and a beautiful artificial view are merged ingeniously at the base.​

You will visit San Tang Street which has always been regarded as the first name of Suzhou ancient streets. San Tang Street has a long history of about 1,100 years, its layout and architecture are best to represent the characteristics of Suzhou's old alleys, and it has connections to many ancient Chinese celebrities and anecdotes. The Lingering Garden is a renowned classical Chinese garden and is recognized with other classical Suzhou gardens as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. China is known for its silk, so for sure we will take you to the Silk Spinning Factory. Depart for Shanghai in the late afternoon.
